Experimental Games and Tower of Goo

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Four guys get together to make 50 games in one semester at the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center. While most are not games but interactive toys they’re still great. Tower of Goo is highly addictive, one of the best online toys I’ve seen since soda play.

Clean door knobs

Thursday, September 8, 2005

The weirdest things happen. I was just checking my search referrers and saw I had picked up some hits for “how to clean door knobs” and lo and behold I’m number one on google for clean door knobs. All for one post on dirty door handles… I love the web, brings Andy Warhol’s prophecy to life, 15 mins of fame, but in little snippets about the flotsam of your life. There is always something funny/tragic/enlightening enough about one’s life worth some eyeball time from someone else on the other side of the planet.

And if not fame, at least you get 15 minutes of processor time on google’s servers.

UPDATE: 12/04/07. The nice guys at Architectural Classics just skyped in and they DO know how to clean door knobs.

Funny when you get echos back from the blogosphere. Nothing is ever dead and forgotten, not even meta-blogging about minor life observations. It’s not even my original door knob post that google seems to like it’s the even more trivial one.

Incredible fractal backgrounds

Thursday, August 19, 2004

I’m very impressed with this software Vue d’Espirit. Not that I’m going to go out and buy it, just knowing that such a thing exists makes me all warm inside. The fun that people must have making these intricate, chaotic system based worlds must be enormous. The shots in the gallery are beautiful in that dreamy sort of CG way, and the alien plants are great.

I have sort of been thinking about doing panoramic urban landscapes and maybe these would be nice backdrops. Not as some weird alien landscape, but in creating a kind of hyperreal sky. I like the idea of turning CG architectural comps on their head. Real buildings with fake backgrounds, rather than fake buildings with real backgrounds.

B3TA zoo

Wednesday, August 11, 2004

The new B3TA zoo is a collection of animals created by the small gods of Photoshop. At times eerily lifelike and believable, otherwise just silliness packed with a proliferation of bills, beaks, fruit and politicians.

The bodgemeister himself just came back from Molvania and recommended this little guidebook as being the best.

funky little nanobot game

A little a-life style game that I found after looking for Dave McKean stuff. Colony, who made it seem to be his agents or somefing.

mixmaster

Crazy dada-esque web remixing site that I found via boingboing, Mina Naguib’s TopFX.com.

Just about anything mixed with the content from the stile project is good. New BBC editorial stile? or even me.
