Change or die

Wednesday, July 16, 2003

I was walking down Kingsway this morning and noticed that the Boots near the top of the road had been completely refurbished. It’s dragged itself out of the 80’s and firmly into the 90’s, only about 10 years too late. I’m sure that there have already been others and that more will follow suit. I think I will miss the grubby grey floors, the tile ceilings and the grungy metal racks. At least now they won’t get mistaken for a pound store anymore.

Then further down the road the Wimpy burger bar had closed down. More passing of an era. Although I didn’t grow up here in the UK there was one or two Wimpy’s in NZ before Maccers took over. They are like Tuataras, living fossils, a relic of a bygone age and it’s sad to see them forced into extinction by foreign species, even if the food is crap.

Wireless

Tuesday, July 1, 2003

I’m sitting here on my bed, cup of tea and a trifle in my hands, new work laptop in front of me…. and there are no wires!! As soon as I stopped it trying to dial up every time I opened IE it connected. I was there in my lounge dancing around with my laptop spinning it in twirls and skipping from site to site, tripping the wifi fantastic. I’ve calmed down a bit now but the thrill is still there. It’s like a steep evolutionary climb, a real technological thrill. I’m surprised really. I had everything set up and had seen it in action many times, but the first time is still exciting. Like your first sexual experience, no matter how many times you watch other people do it your own personal experience is something else. All hail the brain tumor inducing radio spectrum.

Professional Blogging

Monday, June 9, 2003

I find it very interesting that blogging is becoming very professional. The bloggers that seem to devote an awful lot of time or are paid to spend an awfully large amount of time filtering and condensing other media are the ones that get all the attention. A good example is Corante which seems to have co-opted a bunch of bloggers, writers and commentators to work in it’s blog mine. Also the bigger collective blogs seem to have either incredibly gifted multitaskers or poor sods working full time out of their bedrooms.

There’s a lot of talk about blogs being a new form of media, that they are revolutionary or even that they are a new form of community software. That’s all crap!

Assault course for Dormice

Monday, May 12, 2003

Road developers in West Sussex have done a really nice thing and put up a rope bridge for dormice above a road in Haywards Heath. BBCi news article about it here. It always fills me with joy to see people doing nice things for my poor endangered totem animal.

3 3 3 3

Monday, March 3, 2003

Three is my lucky number (numerologically speaking, and I also like the feel of it) and today is a good confluence of threes. Its the 3rd day of the third month of the third year of the third millenium. Unfortunately its 4 threes, not 3 of them, can’t win them all. A sign of good things to come I’m sure.

Illicit Clothing

Thursday, February 20, 2003

I’m smuggling back some Illicit Clothing. Hidden deep in my bags so no one but me will know… I will have problems walking through customs, trying to cover my drool, trying to hide my bestial smile, waiting, wanting to get my hands back on my new purchases. Waiting to be able to languidly lie around inside them.

The shop in Elliot Street is very dangerous, I almost exploded with excitement when I looked around. I’m already hooked, I think I might have to go back for more tomorrow… just one more hit before I leave.

One of their artists is having a show in St Kevin’s Arcade and then in LA.

Search terms

Tuesday, February 4, 2003

I am amazed. I stuck a tracking tool on my homepage about a week ago. I was just looking through the search terms used by people before they came to my site. Some very bizzare stuff which doesn’t appear on my site at all…

japanese girl pee full size
“on their hind legs” bbc
soylent green kitten
“how to pee standing up” pictures

Other Daniel Dixons

Tuesday, February 4, 2003

Was just tempted into doing an ego search after looking at some of the search terms that I’ve got on my google referrers list. Another interesting Daniel Dixon on the web.
