A new larger meaner squid species has been confirmed by our friends in NZ at the AUT. See the BBC news piece on it.
“Now we can say that it attains a size larger than the giant squid. Giant squid is no longer the largest squid that’s out there. We’ve got something that’s even larger, and not just larger but an order of magnitude meaner.”

Bigger and an order of magnitude meaner. Fetch me my harpoon Queequeg, I’m going squid hunting.
For those squid enthusiasts here’s a squid/octopus database from Canada with pictures and videos.

since they found the Collosal squid they got to think of a new name for the giant squid, because it isn’t the largest squid any more

I’m as fascinated with the latest discoveries of large squid as the next guy, but why deceive with the rendering showing these squids in comparison to a Sperm Whale? The longest squid ever recovered, a Giant Squid at 62′, was still 4/5ths stringy tentacle, with a mantle length no more than 12.’ The drawing shows the squid mantles (torsos) at something close to the length of the 60′ Sperm Whale, which is a blatant distortion. I’m sure these photos to the untrained eye elicit awe, but they also compromise credibility.
