Generally somewhat dated as it’s over 30 years old. All the best stories are at the beginning and the end. The middle has more of the unknown and/or slipstream authors. It would I think have done well to have had a Ballard or Amis story as ol’ Harlan said he wanted.
Also there is probably as much HE editorial ranting as there are short stories. While having intros I think is a great idea most of HEs are diatribes against individuals, many of them in the book… in his 3 or 4 page intro there might be a paragraph of bio. My advice, unless you’re a sci-fi bibliophile stay well clear of them, the book will be half the length and more enjoyable.
